Life at the John M. Huntsman College of Business

The John M. Huntsman School of Business is unlike any other college on campus.  The college is technologically advanced and very professional.  The Huntsman School of Business has three study abroad options that give students a hands-on experience in the work force.
The Huntsman School of Business is professional and technologically advanced.  The Eccles Business building is very professional looking.  I feel as though I’m walking into a business building in the “real world” when I walk into it.  Most, if not all, of the classrooms are “smart”, meaning that they have projectors, computers, and document viewers that enhance the quality of teaching.  I feel like the school is very up-to-date with technology as well as the material that is taught in classes.  I took a few classes outside of the college and I didn’t feel like the classes were as put together and professional as they should be in a college setting.  I’m very impressed with the college in the professional and technological aspects.
The college also has three impressive study abroad programs every year.  I have a friend that went on the Eastern Europe program over the summer and he would talk for hours about how awesome it was if you let him.  Although you are loaded with homework for about three weeks before you leave, he’s told me it’s definitely worth it.  You get to work with real companies outside of the United States and see amazing sights.  The study abroad programs are great experiences you can put on your resume and that will help you in your future in the business world.
I love being a part of the Huntsman School of Business.  The college is impressively professional and technologically advanced.  The business college has amazing study abroad programs that allow you to have a wonderful hands-on experience in the real world.  Life at the Huntsman School of Business is grand!

Penn State Scandal

A huge scandal has happened on the campus of Penn State University.  Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky has been accused of molesting young boys at the university and other places.  Head coach Joe Paterno was fired, assistant coach Mike McQueary has been put on administrative leave, and Graham Sprainer, university president, resigned.  Tim Curley, athletic director, and Gary Schultz, vice president for finance and business, have been “charged with perjury and failure to report abusive allegations.” (Wogenrich, 2011, The Morning Call)  Molesting of young people is unpardonable and those involved should be punished by law, but people are innocent until proven guilty.  People’s reputations and jobs shouldn’t be taken away over speculation.
There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions and people are losing their jobs and reputations over speculation rather than fact at this point. Some people’s stories are starting to change on a daily basis. For instance, McQueary claims to have been an eye witness to one of the instances of molestation at the university.  In a handwritten statement to the police, he didn’t say that he had reported the incident.  Then in an email he sent he said that he stopped the molesting and reported it to the police.  Police later said that they cannot find a police report of the incident.
To be perfectly clear on my stance, the rape of young people is inexcusable.  Anyone who knew about it and didn’t say anything to prevent or stop the molesting should be held accountable and be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I am just concerned for the reputations and jobs of some people involved that may have not had a part of the crime at all.  I hope that people’s reputations aren’t permanently damaged and more people don’t lose their jobs over the case until all the facts have been presented.

Two Tips to Help Effectively Present In a Classroom Situation

Presenting in a classroom situation can be tough and scary.  Using PowerPoint and involving the audience are two tips to help effectively present information in a classroom.
Using a PowerPoint has many benefits.  First, it helps you organize your thoughts and put it down.  Second, it provides a visual for the class.  Third, the note feature helps you to remember what you want to say when and keeps you organized.  PowerPoints are great tools for the classroom.
Involving the audience in your presentation helps you present more efficiently.  Arvee Robinson suggested five ways to involve your audience.  The five ways were:  doing exercises, asking questions, finishing sentences, high-fiving, and giving candy.  She suggested to create an exercise that correlates with your presentation to get the audience involved.  Asking the audience questions about the subject you’re presenting keeps you in control of the classroom.  Throwing in an obvious unfinished sentence into your presentation can make things livelier and prevent the audience from getting bored.  Having the audience work in groups and then telling them to high-five their group members will energize the atmosphere as well.  Giving the audience candy can motivate them to keep participating.
Utilizing PowerPoint and audience participation are both great tips to efficiently present information in classroom settings.

Collaboration Technology and Classroom Group Work

When the teacher announces group work in class, you see students cringe.  I am one of those students that cringe.  Group work can be stressful at times.  Thankfully, technology has advanced and new ways to do group work have been invented.

Facebook, Google Docs, and YouTube are only a few examples of collaboration technology.  They all provide ways to communicate and share information with all of the group members.  Facebook “Groups” specifically, allow members of the group to communicate easily, post pictures, and organize events.  Google Docs allow everyone to contribute to the content of the assignment easier.  YouTube also allows group members to contribute to group work in distant places and videos to help with the assignment.

Benefits Of Professional Blogs

Professional Blogs provide several benefits to businesses and organizations, such as being able to “feed” posts to followers and customers and the fact that more people visit blogs than normal websites.

A professional blog allows viewers to subscribe to the page and receive an update when you post on the blog.  This way, your audience knows when you update and people don’t stop visiting the blog.

Online tools, such as search engines and social networks, show blogs first.  Therefore, blogs are more visible than other websites.  The more people that visit your page, the more potential business there is.

The RSS Feed feature and the fact that blogs are more visible than any other type of websites are why businesses should have a professional blog.
